What is the Alertus emergency contact database?

The Alertus emergency contact database is the officially recognised system, that holds the incident or emergency contact details (and other related information) for both residential and business properties throughout New Zealand. It is a service that enables the Police, Fire or Ambulance service to obtain any relevant contact information should an incident occur at your property. The addition of the asset register to business and rrsidential customers will allow Police to request serial number searches to identify the correct owners of located property, whether stolen or found.

Is the service open to anyone?

Yes. Whether you are an owner or tenant, it doesn’t make a difference. Everyone has the right to use this service regardless of ownership. Incidents or Emergency situations are not selective in this way so nor are we!

Are my property details and other information secure?

Yes. This system is robust and secure using the most up to date IT security and adhering to best practice within industry standards. Alertus acknowledges the trust customers place with our business and as such we ensure that your information will only be used for the purposes described and we will not pass your information to any third party or government department unless you give us permission to do so. Please read our privacy policy.

How long will the database retain my emergency contact information?

The emergency contact service is a yearly service. At the end of the first year, Alertus will contact you to renew your membership.

What are two (2) levels of Alertus emergency contact registration?

The two levels are:

  • Business – for business customers only
  • Everyday – for residential and business customers

How can I register to become a member of the Alertus emergency contact system?

You can register online here or by calling 0800 201- 201. We are open 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week.

It is a service that enables the Police, Fire or Ambulance service to react quickly should an incident occur at your property.

How can I update or alter my Alertus emergency contact details?

You can update online here or by calling the Alertus call centre on 0800 201 201, 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week.

What happens after I complete my Alertus emergency contact registration?

Once you have registered, a unique password will be sent out to your nominated email or postal address once your registration is activated.

IMPORTANT: Please keep your user name and password secure for all future correspondence.

How quickly can I expect my online Alertus registration to be activated?

All registrations completed online will be activated immediately.

How many emergency contact persons can I nominate under my Alertus registration?

You can nominate as many people as you like, and in which order they should be contacted. For more information on the registration packages please see our Business Plan page and our Residential Plan page.

What happens if I move or my emergency contact details change?

Should any of your property or emergency contact details change you must update your membership on the database.

If you move house or business to another location, you can simply transfer your Alertus membership to your new location. Just update your membership and request a new Alertus ID sticker online or by calling 0800 201-201.

This will ensure the Alertus emergency contact database is up to date and current to allow Police, Fire and Ambulance to react quickly should an incident or emergency occur at your property.

Can I register multiple properties with Alertus and have the same incident contact details for each property?

Yes. You can register multiple properties with the same incident contact details. However you will need to register and pay for each property seperately. 

Who has access to my Alertus emergency contact information?

Access to your information is strictly restricted to New Zealand Police, New Zealand Fire service, Ambulance service and Alertus. For more information see our Privacy Policy.

How often to I need to renew my Alertus membership?

Registration is for one year. On expiry of your one year anniversary, Alertus will send you a notification of renewal by email or post. You can choose which. 

Are any of my personal details released to a third party?

No. Alertus will only use your information for the purpose we have described and we will not pass on your details to any third party or government department unless you give us permission to do so. Please read our Privacy Policy.

In submitting my email address to Alertus, will I receive any junk emails?

No. Your email address will be used solely by Alertus to update you with the information directly requested by you. For more information see our Privacy Policy.

PAYMENTS

What is the cost for registering my home or business with the Alertus Emergency Contact System?

  • Under the Business plan the cost to register your business premises with the Alertus emergency contact system is just $49.00 per year including GST.
  • For the Everday residential plan the cost to register a residential home, apartment, beach house, flat or unit with the Alertus emergency contact system is also just $49.00 per year including GST.

How can I pay for my Alertus emergency contact membership?

Payment can be made by one of two ways.

  1. By Direct Credit internet banking into the Alertus bank account which is Westpac Bank Acc Number: 03-0578-0917624-00. Please specify your invoice number and surname (residential customers) or business name (business customers) or;
  2. Payments can be made via credit card on receipt of Invoice.

Access to your Alertus profile is controlled by your unique username and password.

How can I update my Alertus emergency contact details?

You can log in online here using your username and password or by calling 0800 201 201. This can be done anytime 24 hrs a day – 7 days a week.

Remember, this is a service that enables the Police, Fire or Ambulance service to react quickly should an incident occur at your property.

What information do I need to login to my Alertus emergency contact details?

You will need your username and password.

Can any member log in online to access their emergency contact account information?

Yes. Every Alertus membership plan entitles the member to have access to their emergency contact information 24 hours a day – 7 days a week.

SECURITY

Protecting your information On Line

At Alertus we use the highest industry standards in security to protect your information.

Accordingly we regularly monitor and review our IT security to counter any new security threats.

What happens if I forget or lose my password?

If you forget or lose your password please visit the Alertus website, or call 0800-201-201, and request a new password to be sent to the email address or postal address registered on the Alertus emergency contact database. For security purposes you will be required to correctly answer a security question before the new password will be sent to your email or postal address. NOTE: If you cannot correctly answer any of these questions you will not be sent a new password but asked to re-register your property on the Alertus emergency contact database and pay for the registration.

What happens if I forget my username?

Your username is based on your own name and therefore should be easily remembered!!

NOTE: You will not be sent a new username and therefore you will need to re-register your property on the Alertus emergency contact database and pay for the registration.

What happens if I forget my security question or security answer?

If you forget the details of your security question or security answer you will be required to re-register your property on the Alertus emergency contact database and pay for the registration.

While your online

We have 128-bit SSL encryption to keep your information secure.

This basically means that your information travels over the internet as a sophisticated code that only we can unscramble.

Our secure website has an SSL certificate issued by Verisign to let you know that our website is genuine and secure.

Our email security policy

We understand our obligation to protect our customers to the best of our ability from email phishing attacks. We have a very clear policy regarding how we talk to our customers via email.

Emails from Alertus will never:

  • Ask you to divulge your username or password
  • Ask you directly to login to Alertus via a link
  • Ask you explicitly to login to your Alertus profile
  • Take you to a web page which explicitly prompts you to login to your Alertus profile

Protecting yourself online

There are a few simple things you can do to help protect yourself online: When using your Alertus profile
  • Select a suitable password.
  • Always protect your password.
  • If you suspect your password is known by someone else, change it using the password reset facility on your profile;
  • Always logout of your Alertus Profile when you have finished.
When using the internet
  • Check that the website is secure, when you are entering in your personal information.
  • Be careful with emails.
  • Secure your computer.
Select a suitable password?
  • When you first register your property with Alertus, you will need to select a user name and password that you can remember.
  • Make sure this information is hard for anyone to guess.
  • Unsuitable passwords include number and letter combinations that may be easily guessed (e.g. 3456, ABC, 1111, AAA), passwords used by you for on line services, or other easily accessible personal information (e.g. birthdate, family, pet or street names).??
Always protect your password
  • Never write your password down or give it out to anyone.
  • Remember that we will never ask you for your Alertus password.
Changing your Password It is also important that you change your online password regularly. To do this, login to your Alertus profile and click on the “Password Reset” button. Let us know if you suspect that your password is known by someone. It is important that you let us know as soon as you suspect or know that your Alertus password is known by someone else or if there has been any unauthorised activity on your profile. Always logout You should logout and close your browser window after you’ve finished using any Alertus service or if you are leaving your desk. Check that the website is secure? To check if a site is secure, look for https:// at the start of your browsers’ address bar. You should also look for the padlock symbol in your browser window, to show that your session is being encrypted. You can then double-click on the padlock to see the level of security being used.

ADDITIONAL INFO

What if I do not want to record all the details of my doctor etc in the Alertus emergency contact database?

Not a problem. This is optional information only.

What if a neighbour or friend discovers an emergency or incident at my property, can they contact Alertus too?

Most definitely. They simply read the contact details on the Alertus sticker and contact us.

It doesn’t matter who discovers the situation requiring the activation of the Alertus emergency contact system.

The important thing is the incident is identified and the nominated emergency contact persons are informed as soon as possible.

Remember, this is a service that enables the Police, Fire or Ambulance service to react quickly should an incident or emergency occur at your property.

What if I get contacted by Alertus while I’m away from my property and my property is unsecure or needs immediate repair?
